"Perhaps you need another shot" of Operation: Mindcrime

Hey, Time...Slow down, dammit. While scrolling through my Facebook feed, on May 3, I saw a post from Queensryche guitarist Michael Wilton stating that the band's 3rd album, Operation: Mindcrime was thirty years old.  What the hell?  Wasn't it just yesterday I was sitting up in the rafters of the Ottawa Civic Centre (I'm Canadian, not a typo), now the TD Place Arena, watching QR open for Metallica on the latter's ...And Justice For All tour?  Wasn't it just a couple years later that I saw

Hey Dallas, check out Igor And the Red Elvises.

This is going to be a little different. I received a Facebook post featuring a concert poster for Igor and the Red Elvises appearing at the Poor Boy Pub in Dallas on Friday, May 4th. Having been fortunate to witness the band on a chilly April night in Ottawa when they opened for the Reverend Horton Heat, I had to pass news of the show to close friends in the Dallas area. I had never heard of the band prior to the Horton Heat show, and frankly would have preferred a show without an opener. As

Sons of Awesome - Sons of Apollo in Montreal - A Concert Review

Following a series of dates in South America, Sons of Apollo played their inaugural Canadian concert at the Corona Theatre in Montreal on April 19th. Originally a movie theatre built in the 1920's, the Corona Theatre provided an excellent setting for the event, with a vintage yet apt ambience. The enthusiastic crowd sported a wide variety of t-shirts displaying the band member's previous ensembles. The opening act, Felix Martin, displayed astonishing virtuosity on a self-designed

    20+ Questions with Felix Martin

So, I'm at the Sons of Apollo show in Montreal on April 19.  Nowhere on the ticket did it mention an opening act.  When I walked into the Corona Theatre, there was a backdrop that said Felix Martin.  Having driven from Ottawa, I was bummed.  I didn't want an opening band since I had to make the 2 hour drive home right after the show. My mind quickly changed when the lights went down and Felix stepped onto the stage with his self designed 16 string, double neck guitar.  He has a style all his

Let's Rock chats with Damon Johnson of Black Star Riders

So, imagine this.  You grow up listening and being inspired by a certain band.  You practice and practice, playing for many years in other bands, and then one day, you get a phone call from that certain band.  They ask you to join them.  You do, you play countless shows, countless classic rock songs.  And then, you start writing new music with your heroes, rename your band and release three albums. This is the story of Damon Johnson.  The 'certain band' was Thin Lizzy.  He now shares the
